Elevated public speaking skills can set your child apart from the crowd. Public speaking happens every time we speak to one or more people. This means every time we wish to find out how someone is doing, meet someone new or exchange ideas and or information we are speaking publicly. However, there are biological differences that can make oral communication a challenge. For example, there are those who orally communicate in few words while others say lots of words that sound disorganized. Being able to understand our preferences while adjusting to the needs of the listener is a skill that will bolster your child’s future success.

Public Speaking in Daily Life
Public Speaking in Daily Life is a unique course of study because for each concept the teacher not only teaches the concept but also helps the student understand how they are uniquely naturally prone to orally engage. For example, what are words you hear that cause you to struggle in finding your words to reply.
Each of us takes part in public speaking on a daily bases – every time we open our mouths and say something to at least one other person. Oral communication is how we connect, reconnect and stay connected with each other. Oral communication also plays a huge roll in how we share our thoughts, ideas, and information. Great oral communicators have developed their active listening skills and seek to speak to be understood.
Part 1: Teacher's guide the students as they discover foundational concepts of “speaking to be understood.” Concepts studied include, identifying and answering difficult everyday questions, listening, the importance of word choice, perspective, and why mind-set matters. These concepts are taught through the lenses of person-to-person connection, and question and answer. Students will be provided organizational structures to help with organizing their replies. On the last day of class, parents will be invited to attend to hear the students review the concepts they have learned, listen to the students answer impromptu questions and receive feedback, and be provided an opportunity to ask questions.
Part 2: Continuing from Public Speaking for Daily Life Part 1, this course begins with a review of the concepts from Part 1. Then the focus turns to new concepts such as referencing what the previous speaker said, scope, vocal variety and body language, as they discover how to respectfully participate in conversations and discussions. On the last day of class, parents will be invited to attend to hear the students review the concepts they have learned, listen to the students participate in a conversation and a discussion, receive feedback, and be provided an opportunity to ask questions. (Part 1 must be completed prior to taking Part 2.)
