Writing Classes

how does the program work?

The system has 5 levels: Largo, Echo, Allegro, Overture, and Interlude. Younger students begin with Largo and progresses through each level. Each level is more challenging than the previous level. Within the system, 9 units are taught sequentially. Each unit or module focuses on a different writing skill and a different element of style. These modules are taught repetitively at each level. During the school year, your child will be taught all 9 of the modules over 3 trimesters.

What will my student learn?

The students will always begin the first trimester learning about basic sentence structure and style components. This will be taught at the appropriate level which matches their experience with the program. Even though the program offers some redundancy in the way it is taught, each concept is taught at a more advanced level as your child successfully completes each trimester. Students who return can benefit from reviewing the basics of the system. As a student advances in the program, they will be challenged by more difficult source texts and will be expected to use more advanced vocabulary. They are required to use higher level thinking and will be assigned more complex writing assignments as they progress
