Part I: World Building for Fantasy Writers Part 1 will teach aspiring fantasy authors the techniques and skills necessary for creating vivid and believable fictional worlds. Designed for middle school students, participants of this course will learn to identify fantasy elements, craft a vivid setting, and create both social and magical structures. Students will learn through the study of classic literature and written exercises. By the close of this Summer Camp, students will create an in-depth profile of their fictional world.
Part II: World Building for Fantasy Writers Part 2 will teach aspiring fantasy authors the techniques and skills necessary for crafting compelling stories within their fictional world. Using the worldbuilding profile from Worldbuilding for Fantasy Writers Part 1, students will create realistic characters, ear-catching dialogue, and heart-pounding conflicts. At the close of this Summer Camp, students will share a short story or scenes from a longer work that takes place within their fictional world. Part I must be completed prior to taking Part II.
